Last week of Term 3. Farewell to Hayden, Sydney Kings & Kindy EXPO visit.

It was a busy final week for all Year 3’s. Sadly we said farewell to a great friend and classmate, Hayden Mistry. Both Hayden and his sister, Jessica, have been at Sacred Heart for a number of years and are moving further up Sydney’s north, taking them closer to home. We wish them and their family all the very best. Good Luck Hayden. You will be greatly missed.

Last Tuesday afternoon the basketball court was abuzz with fun and excitement, as we watched the brilliance of the Sydney Kings perform their magic. Lochie Brown, 3Blue, was lucky enough to be a prize winner of a Kings basketball. Proudly supporting his win is Harrison, Kaelan and Liam, who cheered them on with their fabulous posters. Another lucky 3 Blue winner was Isabella Livermore, who won a Kings yellow T-shirt. Not one to miss out is our wonderful leader, Mr Campbell, who joined in to congratulate them all. What a great photo!

To end the week, all Year 3 had fun in visiting the many Expo’s from around the classes. Congratulations to everyone. So inspirational!!  Conor and Kaelan were particularly proud of their sibling’s weather inventions when we visited Kindergarten... maybe some very clever meteorologists in the making!!

Thank you to everyone for all your support over the term, in particular the class mums, Chantal, Jacqui and Sally.  Wishing everyone a well-earned rest and a safe holiday.

Here's wishing you all the best Hayden!

Welcome Kings!

On Tuesday, the mighty Sydney Kings basketball players visited Sacred Heart. Champions in the National Basketball League (NBL), they last won the championship in 2005 against Adelaide. Some team members who visited were Michael Bryson, Greg Whittington, Jason Cadee, Aleks Maric and Brad Newley.
Before the big game we used our creativity to make posters to welcome the Kings.  Our Year 6s played a spectacular game against the champs who handed out some prizes for fabulous posters. We saw amazing dunks and skills. Year 3 posters were impressive! Great teamwork scored some great prizes.
Hope you enjoy our basketball blog!

More Fun with Fractions using Arrays and Cuisenaire Rods.

Year 3 have had more fun in their fraction learning this week using arrays and Cuisenaire rods. Who can remember using those??

Cuisenaire rods are mathematics learning aids for students that provide a hands-on way to explore mathematics and learn mathematical concepts, such as the four basic operations and working with fractions.   GREAT WORK YEAR 3!!

Year 3 Fraction Frenzy!!

For the past few weeks in Mathematics, Year 3 has continued their Fraction Frenzy learning journey.

Using smarties, counters, pegs, an assortment of objects, along with fractions mats, Pizza Fraction Fun, Fraction Dominoes and Colour the Cakes games, have all been helping the students to better understand fractions. They have been learning the difference between the numerator and the denominator.

Some Year 3’s are coming to grips with Equivalent fractions. Our wonderful Mrs Russell keeps the students “on their toes” with her fraction challenges!!

Keep up the great work Year 3.
